Enter a world of utopian futurism with the eighth module in Gothic Instruments’ popular DRONAR series of atmosphere creation tools – ‘Metal & Glass’. Recorded and processed by movie trailer sound designer Alessandro Camnasio, DRONAR Metal and Glass was derived from hitting and bowing glass and metal objects and results in a collection of sounds that can range from pure and airy to distorted and dark.

Easily craft disquieting, anxiety-inducing audio for your latest thriller, sci-fi or horror production or forge interesting textures for your cinematic orchestral music or ambient tracks. Either way, your audio will enter unexplored territories that can’t fail to impinge on your listeners’ emotions.

"Dronar’s modules produce hugely complex sounds but they are not complex to use and abuse. And I don’t want to drone on and on about the price, but to get them for less than 60 quid a pop beggars belief for the power you get." - Music Tech

The Sounds

Broken cymbals, Tibetan bowls, marbles, bottles, chains, magnets, windchimes, nails and more were "played" with a cello bow, hit with sticks, mallets or played against each other to form the raw audio for this collection. The sounds were then processed with granular synthesis, time-stretching, convolution, resonant filters, pitch-shifters and many other effects, such as delays, flangers, phasers, distortion, reverbs.

"Metal & Glass does dark, sinister and unsettling very well. However, in addition, there are also some more uplifting and dreamlike sounds amongst the preset collection as well as some very usable bass, arp and ‘pulse’ sounds." - Sound on Sound

A Universe From A Single Note

Uniquely, DRONAR creates complex atmospheres from a very small number of notes played (1 to 4 recommended). It spreads out the chord in the mid-range, adds a root bass note, a high note and then adds evolving sound effects. 8 simultaneous different sounds are then animated with LFOs and arpeggiators to bring them to life. The result is rich and dramatic.

A Hand Free For Expression

All this complexity from a few fingers on one hand frees up your other hand to expressively control the dials with mouse drags or external MIDI controller knobs, and record the changes as a performance in your DAW. Subtle dial movements give instant and deep expression, ideal for soundtracks as well as highly expressive cinematic pads in any genre.

A Complete Atmosphere

Because DRONAR instantly adds low, mid-range and high sounds plus sound effects, you barely need other sounds to quickly create a complete piece of atmospheric, expressive music.

Beginner & Expert Friendly

Needing to only play a few notes and move a few dials to get such rich expression is obviously inviting for beginners, but an expert will get much further by knowing what notes to play and how to express emotions using the dials.

Who's It For?

With its ability to produce foreboding atmospheres and soundscapes, DRONAR Metal and Glass is ideal for composers creating soundtracks for thrillers, sci-fi, mystery, dramatic documentaries and sophisticated horror productions. Anyone producing cinematic orchestral music or ambient tracks will also find this module extremely useful for creating unusual, interesting pads and textures.

Users of DRONAR Hybrid or Cinematic Atmospheres modules in particular, will find that they can extend their sonic possibilities with seamless blending of Metal and Glass’s sounds.
